How Much Money Should You Spend on Your Book?
Everyone knows that writing a book can get expensive, but not everyone is aware of how much they should spend on writing their book.
Unfortunately, we can’t give you a straightforward answer: the amount of money you spend depends on how involved you are going to be.
DIY / Phone a Friend - $1,000
Do you love to DIY and have friends everywhere? Then you may be able to spend as little as $1,000 on your book.
(Keep in mind, though, that the cost of the time it takes you to learn everything may outweigh the benefits of going the DIY route… and your friends may not appreciate your bargain-hunting tactics or put as much effort in as you’d like!)
Write with Some Help - $5,000-$10,000
With anywhere from $5,000 to $10,000, you can afford to pay for cover design, internal design/formatting, typesetting, editing, and a slew of other services.
You could even create a hardcover and audio version of your book, but you’ll still need to write the book yourself.
All Hands on Deck as You Write - $60,000
Not sure where to begin, and don’t have the time to figure it out? With $60,000, you can pay for professional coaching help with every step of your process.
You’ll also get help marketing and promoting your book. This is a great choice for someone who doesn’t have the time or energy to do anything other than write the book.
Hire a Ghostwriter - Add $50,000 - $80,000
But what if you don’t even want to write the thing? In this case, you can hire a ghostwriter.
Your ghostwriter will interview you - asking questions for clarification along the way - and you’ll end up with a book in hand that bears your name but took zero of your blood, sweat, and tears to happen.
And you only have to add $50 to $80,000 of the above costs to do it!
Note: that’s a grand total of between $51,000 and $140,000, for those who are paying attention.
